Our business and strategic partnerships

M·E·L Research and Service Development has been established for over 25 years, founded initially as a small consultancy partnership between current chief executive Dr Robert Pocock and two doctoral postgraduate colleagues from Aston University in 1985. Our business structure is a registered company limited by shares trading as M·E·L Research Limited. Please click here to see our Business Structure.

A quarter century of steady growth and development, has resulted in a business turning over £2 million annually, and employing around 90 staff from our offices on Birmingham Science Park Aston and in local field teams and specialist consultants across the UK. We are a registered company limited by shares, independently financed without the constraints of external equity investment. Our accountants Crowther Jordan have been with the company since its foundation, testifying to the business's stability, internal financial strength and resilience. See here for our latest business statement and financial ratios.

Birmingham Science Park Aston is a nationally renowned centre for entrepreneurial business innovation, located next to Aston University at the heart of Eastside, which is Birmingham's major new know-how investment quarter, and the planned location for Birmingham's HS2 high speed rail terminal. The ethos of the Science Park, like ours, is to grow innovative, environmentally progressive, knowledge-based organisations, and to provide national leadership for the UK's knowledge-based economy.

Our team consists of some 25 expert research and consultancy staff and associates, plus a field force of averaging 65 support workers providing survey research and technical support. Our client services are backed up by a quality and finance team of five administrative staff.

Over our 25 year history, we have forged strong strategic partnerships with a number of organisations, such as CACI, the Human City Institute and the Centre for Community Research and  For more information on these partnerships, click here. We also have developed strong relationships with our own suppliers over the years. Please click here for further information.

In summary, our strength, stability and resilience as a business is underpinned by a strong and longstanding network of business partnerships - reflecting the kind of maturity and reliability that minimises business risk to clients, and maximises client confidence in our security as suppliers.
